The Gypsy King

Fights 32    Wins 31  22KO’s      Draws 1

I vaguely remember hearing the name Tyson Fury when I was in my thirties. I also remember hearing a mention of the Gypsy King blood that's in his veins. I didn't really think much of it at the time - I was probably more caught up in mixed martial arts - and really don't remember seeing him fight up until I decided to watch a you tube video. A you tube video where he fought Deontay Wilder and created one of the most memorable moments in sporting history. Sports of all types won't see much more amazement and entertainment than when Tyson picked himself up off of the canvas while Deontay was celebrating in the twelfth round. From there I decided to look up some of his other fights and became a big fan!

Tyson's closest fight - if you ask me - was against John Mcdermott for the English title. If you ever go back and watch it you should remember that everybody - for some reason - seemed to love John Mcdermott and they didn't really notice Tyson's fist in his face throughout the fight. This was probably the first time Fury had to show what a great boxer he was!

Some people thought Mcdermott won even though Tyson was given the decision. The re-match was finished in much the same way as many of  Fury’s previous fights did: with his opponent pretty messed up (shades of Deontay Wilder). There may have been a fight that went to a decision between the two Mcdernott fights, but all in all, Tyson’s early career was filled with one man shows.

The two Mcdermott fights are shown in this you tube video. The first of which is portrayed more fairly than in the official TV broadcast.

We are now entering what I hope will be the very beggining of Fury’s later career. I really hope he keeps fighting in to his forties, especially with this kronk style he’s lately taken on! Seeing him end his reign with numerous men splattered (but still alive) on the canvas would be an amazing last chapter, and not too different to the first seven or eight fights he had.

The Gypsy King has proved he has the most skill in the world. Especially with his size, weight and after beating Wladimir Klitschko. Now all he has left to do is destroy a few apponents before the end of the last round and he should be remembered as the best for decades or even centuries.

I really can’t remember a time when it felt so good to be a British fight fan! With the likes of Fury, Anthony Joshua, the still undefeated Joe Joyce, and a big handful of other British fighters showing great talent in boxing and MMA, it’s a great time to be a Britsh!

Thanks! Neil.
